VOCATIONAL TRAINING is an important part of the Curriculum, where correct work habits, appropriate work attitudes and special vocational skills are inculcated and developed.
The programme provides appropriate training in Carpentry, Sewing and Screen Printing to encourage the achievements of these skills at optimum levels, according to each student’s individual ability.
Teaching is based on :
- Task analysis, breaking up a complex task into simple steps
- Proceeding from simple jobs to more complicated tasks.
- Proceeding from hand-over-hand help to verbal prompts, gradually decreasing physical help
- Motivating the child.
Children are assessed and admitted to the programme based on:
- Cognitive skills
- Personal skills
- Social skills
- Emotional skills
- Life survival / safety skills
- Physical and sensori-motor skills
- Work-related skills
The ultimate goal is to train Al Noor students for a vocation in Carpentry, Sewing and/or Screen Printing, and so enable the Special Needs Adult to join a factory, shop or sheltered workshop, thus making him or her more self-reliant. Skills acquired may also be useful in other vocational streams.
Handmade items in the workshop are sold in order to raise awareness about the children’s abilities and to recover material costs.
